Activists stage coal-train blockade

A handful of activists, many from Deep Green Resistance, stopped a massive coal train for 12 hours. Imagine what we could do with a bit more support and participation. Please check the story for a link to how you can contribute to this campaign. On Saturday August 27th, activists for ecological defense blocked a northbound BNSF coal train for twelve hours at the Chuckanut Bay railroad bridge south of Bellingham, Wash. in an effort to directly halt the transportation of coal on-route for shipment overseas. ...

The Ecomodernist Manifesto is a program for genocide and ecocide

Perhaps you’ve heard of the false promise of Bright Green Technology? If you couple that with a strong dose of human-centrism, you might have something like Ecomodernism. That’s not a good thing. Deep Green Resistance co-founder Derrick Jensen explains. Remade by man: the Passenger Pigeon. Juvenile (left), male (center), and female (right), from ‘Birds of New York’ (University of the State of New York) 1910-1914. Fighting for Mauna Kea: How Liberal and Radical Approaches Differ

The American Southwest, like all of North America, is occupied territory. Its resource are in a constant state of extraction and destruction. What would it take to reclaim the land and the life in it? Deep Green Resistance member and activist Will Falk discusses how we might do so, by distinguishing between liberalism and radicalism. Liberals and the New McCarthyism

Deep Green Resistance co-founder Derrick Jensen published a new essay, which we encourage liberals, progressives, radicals, and others interested in the free exchange of ideas to consider. From Counterpunch AUGUST 10, 2015 Liberals and the New McCarthyism by DERRICK JENSEN It’s easy enough, some sixty years after the fact, for us to cluck our tongues at the cowardice and stupidity of those who went along with McCarthyism. It’s especially easy for liberals and academics to say that had they been alive back then, they would certainly have had the courage to stand up for discourse and to stand up for those being blacklisted. That’s partly because universities like to present themselves as bastions of free thought and discourse, where students, faculty, and guests discuss the most important issues of the day. Liberal academics especially like to present themselves as encouraging of these discussions. ...

Make Eye Contact

“Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. And once you’ve seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. There’s no innocence. Either way, you’re accountable.” -Arundhati Roy Take action: http://deepgreenresistance.org/get-involved/take-action

Nature on the Rack: Will Falk on Mauna Kea

Please check out this passionate, eloquent essay from Deep Green Resistance member Will Falk. Will deconstructs the issues surrounding the ongoing attempts to block construction of an 18-story astronomical observatory with an Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). We can’t add to Will’s work; we only note that western science, like so much of industrial civilization, is merely a toxic mimicry of its indigenous-borne counterpart. And when science gets commoditized, its identity as just another extractive mechanism is further revealed. ...

More on the "Magicke" of Green Technology

Deep Green Resistance understands that Green Technology, Renewable Energy and other similar terms/approaches are a false promise. They will not, and can not, deliver us from the devastation that industrial civilization is wreaking on the planet. We’ve posted that before on this forum (see The Deep Green Resistance Perspective) But don’t take our word for it - s tories of creative ecology has posted its own list of “Ten things environmentalists need to know about renewable energy” which we re-post below. ...
