Over 10 years ago, we contracted with the Forest Service on a 50/50 grant to thin 20 acres of land through hydro axing a large percentage of the trees in hopes of creating a park-like environment that we were assured would improve forest health and help with mitigation of fire. After completion of this project, we were devastated by the results. The land looked like a clear cut with few remaining trees, and wood scraps blanketed the land that used to be our healthy living forest. We were assured this would all grow back and were told to ignore the landscape and trust that the Forest Service knew best and that we had done what was right for the land. Because of the tremendous mistake we made in thinning our land, I wanted to share my discoveries with others so people have the opportunity to become better informed about decisions they make on forested land and on policies implemented throughout the National Forests. ...

Deep Green Resistance will be participating in, and working to raise awareness and support for, the 3rd Annual Unis’tot’en Action Camp in Unis’tot’en territory in the north of Unceded Occupied so-called British Columbia. We seek to stand in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en and other First Nations in their fight against the exploitation and degradation brought on by the tar sands, including the Enbridge Northern Gateway and other pipelines, fuel terminals, and refineries. Members of Deep Green Resistance will participate in the Action Camp, as well as organize a series of events to raise support and collect donations for the Unis’tot’en Action Camp and the struggle. ...

***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*** March 10, 2012 Community Members & Activists Confront Suncor Energy at Oil Leak Site Protestors demand an end to pollution in Colorado, Canada Commerce City, Colo – Members of the Stop Suncor and Tar Sands Coalition, including the American Indian Movement of Colorado (AIM), Deep Green Resistance Colorado (DGR), United Community Action Network (UCAN), Occupy Denver, Front Range Rising Tide, 350.org, Boulder Food Rescue, and concerned citizens rallied and occupied the site of Suncor Energy’s oil leak on the shore of Sand Creek. Acting as Private Attorneys General, under the authority of the Clean Water Act, water samples were taken to be tested for contaminants. The demonstration sought to bring public attention to the fact that Suncor Energy’s continued negligence and environmental degradation is killing Colorado communities, water and wildlife, and to force the industrial polluter to confront the effects of its actions. ...

This past New Year’s Eve, activists from the American Indian Movement and Deep Green Resistance Colorado organized a protest in Denver to raise awareness about the chronic negligence, pollution and general evil of Suncor Energy and it’s oil refinery in Commerce City, Colorado. We hooked up with members of Occupy Denver and marched down the 16th Street Mall, before hearing from members of AIM, DGR Colorado, and members of neighborhood in which the refinery is located.
