AIM Colorado Speaks on KGNU & at Occupy Denver

This past Valentines Day, members of Colorado AIM (American Indian Movement) visited KGNU to talk about past & present campaigns they’re involved in, including the campaign against the Suncor Energy oil refinery, which is refining and spilling dirty tar sands oil right here in Colorado.

“Once you’re connected with the land, it’s your responsibility to protect the land, at whatever cost,” said Scott Jacket, one of the activists & organizers, speaking to one of the central themes characteristic of aboriginal struggles throughout North America and the world; the defense of traditional lands from colonization and theft. “As native people, we’ve lost jobs, we’ve lost loved ones; we’ve lost a lot of things, but the one thing we have left is our land. And that’s one thing we’re always going to fight for.”

Scott and AIM members will be part of an Indigenous Activist Panel hosted by Occupy Denver tomorrow, Tuesday February 21st. They will speak to the importance of making indigenous values, perspectives and analysis integral to the occupy/decolonization movement. The event is at the Deerpile Space above City O City (206 E 13th Avenue, Denver) and begins at 5:30 pm. More information here.
